BioMed eHIT USB Video Head Impulse Test (vHIT)
The beginning of the 20th century clinically introduced by Bárány the bithermal examination has long been the main method of side depended evaluation of the function of the horizontal semicircular canals. In 1988 Halmagyi and Curthoys first time described the so called head impulse test. The development this method to video head impulse test now enables the visualization of vestibuloocular reflex (VOR) and thus an objectification of disorders of all three semicircular canals each side. Now, vHIT has become the golden standard for testing the 6 semicircular canals.
The eHITUSB system has been developed to effectively perform vHIT test including detailed quantitative analysis of all six semicircular canals.
The system includes specially designed goggles with fast, high resolution 200Hz cameras and innovative 800Hz 3-D Innertial Motion Sensors (IMS). This provides exceptional eye and head movement tracking. Thanks to the double camera registration system, it is possible to quickly change the recorded eye without removing the goggles.
With the new eHITUSB system performing of vHIT test is easy like never before. The goggles has been optimised to provide robustness for artefacts when testing the patient both in horizontal and vertical planes. The correct responses can be registered without excessive efort and discomfort for the patient.
The results are shown on graphic diagrams in realtime. There is a possibility of individual analysis and removal of each impulse. It is also possible, if necessary,to record more impulses without repeating the whole test. The gain is calculated automatically.
Additional to the gain and movement display, the eHITUSB software offers a 3D-depiction of the eye response and a six-plane canalogram.
With the additional mascara option patients with eye make-up on can be tested without removing it and still feel comfortable.
